Volunteer at DCHS

Volunteers play an important role at Dubois County Humane Society. From helping care for dogs and cats to supporting events and everyday shelter tasks, volunteers help us create a better experience for both animals and adopters.
Whether you have a few hours a month or want to be more involved, there are many ways to help. No special experience is required for every role — just a willingness to learn, be dependable, and care about the mission.

Ways You Can Help
  • Animal enrichment and socialization
  • Walking dogs and spending time with cats
  • Cleaning and daily care tasks
  • Laundry, dishes, and organizing
  • Special events and fundraisers
  • Skilled projects and behind-the-scenes help
How to Get Started
  1. Complete a volunteer application
  2. Attend orientation
  3. Start helping where needed most
Volunteers are a valuable part of the DCHS team, and every hour given helps make a difference for the animals in our care.

All volunteers must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Commit a minimum of 4 hours per month long-term. *Exceptions apply for Dog Day Out activities
Must never have been convicted of any crimes related animal offenses such as cruelty or neglect.
  • Have an approved volunteer application on file
