Surrendering a Pet
We are a limited-admission facility. We do not put animals down (euthanize) due to space or time constraints. We only take in as many as we can commit to each week. We do not accept feral cats, small mammals or wild animals, though we can help you find a rescue organization that can help.
You will need to complete the surrender form on our website.
We know there are many more animals in need than we can take in. We are often have a waiting list for several weeks, especially for cats. Please do everything you can during the wait to find a home for your pet yourself. Please remember we are a small facility made up primarily of volunteers, we will do all in our capacity to help!
If you are having a behavior issue with your pet, please exhaust all efforts before rehoming your pet by consulting with a dog trainer or behaviorist. We recommend Aaron Terwiske at 812-639-9067 and The Indiana Dog Whisper at https://www.indianadogwhisperer.com/
If you are unable to financial afford food or supplies for your pet, please visit DCHS during office hours. We would be more than happy to provide temporary assistance.
