Adopted cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, given age-appropriate vaccines, and receive routine preventative care before going home.
Yes. Your new pet will be current on age-appropriate vaccinations at the time of adoption. After adoption, you are responsible for keeping your pet up to date.
Yes. Every pet in the adoption program is spayed or neutered prior to adoption unless special circumstances apply.
DCHS does accept previously adopted pets back; however, the standard surrender process must be followed. Please fill out the surrender form or reach out to the shelter to discuss options for keeping the animal.
In general, adoption fees are not refunded. DCHS encourages adopters to carefully consider the commitment before adopting.
Trial adoptions may be available in certain situations, usually for adult pets and typically for a 7-day period. An application must be submitted in advance.
Trial adoptions are usually not offered for puppies or kittens.
